Epilogue
Duration: 9 minutes
About
“Epilogue was composed after one of the final scenes of Karel Čapek’s play: Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti (Rossum’s Universal Robots), written in 1920 and premiered in 1921 in Prague. This visionary science fiction work presents a world in which androids are mass-produced to become efficient workers and serve human beings.
However, the ideal life of humans begins to lose meaning and ultimately ends their ability to reproduce. Soon after, the robots decide to rebel and stage a revolt; they kill all their “masters” except for one scientist, who must create the formula to manufacture robots that can duplicate themselves.
The scene from which Epilogue is taken features the scientist Alquist, who desperately tries to create the formula, finds himself trapped in arguments with several robots about what to do in this situation, until he decides to dissect one of the robots to observe its interior and hopes that the young android will not be accidentally killed in the process.”
