Nu le monde

2014
for soprano and percussion

Duration: 6 minutes

About

Nu le monde is a piece for soprano and Tibetan bowls, written after a short eponymous poem by the Canadian writer Huguette Bertrand, from her collection « Strates amoureuses » (Lamarge, 2000). This text immediately struck me as very musical, with its construction both free and clear, and its somewhat mysterious character. This piece is an intimate, modest duet, where the two musicians dialogue in harmony.”

Passionate
the sun bursts out laughing
on our sanitized surfaces

round surface of women’s bellies
swollen with males and females
peaceful, always aching

flat, indifferent surface
that a single beat from her is enough
to chase to the ends
of benumbed ages

surface of shadow transfigured
when the sun quivers
before a naked, ageless world
become passionate
