“The piece is composed around the theme of pastel, “or bleu” (“blue gold”). This theme gives free rein to the imagination through its creative possibilities around the color blue (already explored in Blue Spine for chamber orchestra in 2018) and the different states of matter of pastel throughout its complete cycle: kneaded leaves, thick paste, rolling, drying, fermentation, hardening process, meticulous crushing, up to obtaining a powder. Pastel is extremely interesting in this sense, since one starts from the plant to arrive at a hard and powdery material. This progressive transformation of the material is a great source of inspiration, transposed here into a musical, rhythmic, harmonic, and timbral dimension.”
