About

Created for the inauguration of the Sentier des Cabanes Sonores in Metz in 2015, La Pierre Chantante is an improvised musical performance by Clara Olivares and percussionist Simon Pomarat, conceived around a pavilion imagined by Jean-François Frering and Klaus Stöber.

The pavilion, initially designed to reveal meteoric phenomena (rain, mist, light) in connection with plants, was reconfigured to host a mineral sound device: a Gabbro stone, a dense volcanic rock rich in iron, found both in Sweden and on the Moon.

In this performance, the stone becomes an instrument. Moistened and then rubbed with bare hands, it vibrates and resonates. The human hand brings forth an archaic and telluric song. This sound ritual creates a dialogue between matter and the elements: wind, rain, fire, and water.
