“Fusion of the Cracks is a piece built around the idea of the perpetual emergence and extinction of timbres. The title clarifies the poetic intent of the piece: fragmentation of grain, breaking of sound, rough textures, interrupted, organized in a series of organic tableaux, alternating between growth and multiplication of material, and moments of stasis or micro-repetition. I work on the hybridization of several instrumental sounds, and particularly on the erasure of attack transients, in order to blur auditory cues.

The multiplicity of playing techniques does not prevent simplicity from being at the heart of the piece: restricted intervallic movements, stripped-down harmonies, shifting but rarely fast tempos… We lose the sense of duration, and yet the piece never stops transforming, moving from one timbre to another, like a palette of shadows and pitches. The flow is interrupted very little, in an almost total absence of silence, but letting emerge thin, forgotten sounds, held by dust of sound, breath, or the brilliance of a high note piercing for a few seconds above the organic material.”
